Virginia (VB) + David (DJ)
How did you meet?
We have a mutual friend who David used to work with who wanted to set us up for about 2 years. We finally ended up going on our first date through Tinder though!
When did you know it was true love?
I think I knew pretty early on. It just felt different to anything I’d ever experienced before.
Tell us about the proposal and the ring?
David was in Melbourne visiting family and was due to fly back Christmas Eve, which is when he had planned to propose. After a delayed flight and a frantic rush to pick up the ring from the jeweler, he made it home in time for dinner. We sat in our courtyard with our pup Bailey having our traditional Christmas Eve dinner, just the two of us, and all of a sudden he was down on one knee! It was perfect. I absolutely adore the ring that David designed. It’s a white gold band with a round diamond in the middle and sapphire teardrops on either side.
From the beginning, what kind of wedding did you want? What was your wedding style?
I’ve never really dreamed of my perfect wedding day so it was interesting when it came time to starting the process. I do have a very particular style though in general so I followed that instinct.
What was your theme and colour palette? Why did you choose it? What décor elements did you incorporate throughout the wedding?
I love the industrial style so I decided to follow that theme with heaps of greenery and just a hint of white. The Theatre Bar at the End of the Wharf in itself is a very industrial venue with beautiful high ceilings and raw wooden floorboards. I’m obsessed with linen so my mum found this beautiful raw grey linen fabric online, which we cut into tablecloths for each table. Our florist Matt then created a very organic runner out of all sorts of greenery with a few cyclamens down the middle. We kept the table very simple then with just menus and name cards.
Did you work with a wedding stylist or planner? If so, tell us a little bit about how they brought your vision to life?
I did a lot of it myself but I had a friend Brooke, who is in the industry, help me which was a massive help. She was there on the day overlooking the set up and brought everything to life!
Tell us more about your wedding gown? How did you find it? Who made it? What inspired the design?
Georgia Young in Fitzroy Melbourne designed my wedding gown. I saw her gowns on Instagram and instantly loved her vibe! I was on the hunt for something a bit more unique and she really fit that brief.
Tell us a little bit more about your accessories and the jewellery you wore? Why did you choose them? Any particularly special or unusual pieces?
I had a collar on my gown so decided to keep the jewelery very simple. I found some pearl earrings from Holly Ryan, which were great because they were a little different with one single pearl earring on one side and the other a row of three.
What did the groom and groomsmen wear?
David and the groomsmen wore grey Institu suits with white shirts and black ties.
What did the bridesmaids wear?
The bridesmaids wore white lace Lover dresses.
Please describe the ceremony, ceremony location, ceremony styling and vows?
We wanted to keep everything at the same location so we had our ceremony on the balcony of the Theatre Bar, over looking Sydney harbour and the harbour bridge. There wasn’t a lot of styling, just two amazing industrial style pots with greenery. We wrote our vows ourselves and kept them simple and lighthearted.
Tell us a little bit about the food and drinks at your celebration? Any highlights or items of note?
For the entree we had canapés, which were served while everyone was standing, chatting and having a drink. Then we all sat down for the main meal and had dessert canapés followed by a cheese wheel cake. The food was done by Fresh Catering and it was absolutely delicious!
What flowers featured in your wedding and why?
I love greenery and white flowers. So my brief to the florist was to just get as much greenery in as he could! We decided to keep my bridesmaids bouquets green and then mine had an amazing white hanging orchid as well.
Tell us about your photographer. Why did you choose them? Tell us a little more about working with them on the day?
Our photographer was Jessie Ann. We met her at another friends wedding and instantly got a great vibe from her! She was wonderful and relaxed and really felt like a fly on the wall on the day.
What was the highlight of the wedding day for you? Tell us about any other favourite or particularly memorable/special moments? (if possible, would be great to get both the bride and groom to answer this question!)
Virginia: My highlight was of course marrying David but also experiencing that amazing moment in front of all of our closets family and friends. The MC’s and the speeches were also a huge highlight!
David: My highlight was Virginia doing a surprise speech. She doesn’t like public speaking so that was huge! Another was our favourite song starting and then seeing Virginia walking down the aisle.
If you were trying to describe your wedding to someone in ten words or less, what would you say?
A whole lot of love and fun!
What would you say was the most unique part of your wedding?
Do you have any tips for brides-to-be who are planning their own luxurious wedding?
Be organized and have fun with it!
What part of your wedding did you have to compromise on?
Probably the guests, we wanted to keep it small. And the brand of beer!
Looking back, what is one thing you would change about your wedding?
I honestly wouldn’t change a thing! Even the rain.
Where did you honeymoon?
We went to South Africa and Mauritius. David is originally from South Africa so we went to see family who couldn’t make it to the wedding and also went on safari which was amazing!
What does life look like for the two of you now? Where are you living? Plans for the future, etc?
Life is happy and we’re enjoying every minute of being married. We’re still living in our place in Paddington.
